Hidden Gems – Nick Davis
In this week’s Hidden Gem, Serge was given the opportunity to feature Nick Davis. Who is Nick Davis? For the unlearned, he is the lead vocal to the band Rosevelt who opened for Incubus in 2011.
Well enough talk from Serge, let Nick Davis talk about who he is and his current solo-debut single “Lost In Time” right after the jump.
Nick Davis is a Malaysian singer-songwriter, musician and actor who is also well known as the frontman of modern rock band, Rosevelt (2010 – present). Davis was raised in Kuala Lumpur, graduated from a performing arts school and began his musical career when he formed an acoustic trio under the name of The Snow Symphony back in 2009.
A year after, he joined the band Rosevelt taking the role of a vocalist and frontman for the band who opened for American alternative rock band Incubus mid 2011, before returning to his solo musical career as a side project performing under his own name in 2012.
He is well known for his dark haunting melody lines and the dynamic movements in his music. Other activities include composing for various local theatre and film productions.
Lost In Time will be Malaysian singer-songwriter Nick Davis’ first single to be released. With this single, he digs deeper into the human psyche with his music with dark haunting sounds, honest lyrics and a sonically epic ending.
“I’ve always been truly inspired by the singer-songwriters that i’ve listen to (both local and international) during the time when i first starting coming out into the scene to perform as a solo performer. The Malaysians like, Isaac Entry, Reza Salleh, Yuna, Liyana Fizi, Azmyl Yunor, Mei Chern, Shelley Leong, Rashdan Harith, Rendra Zawawi, Az Samad and the “internationals” like Damien Rice, Nerina Pallot, The Swell Season, and many more good music that used to inspire me and fill my driving and before bed playlist.”
“Although being with a rock band like Rosevelt for about 3 years now, I’ve never really lost my love for good acoustic and mellow music. But at the same time, I’ve also grown to love post rock, electronica and film scores over the last few years.”
“So here we are, a mixture of all the music i love to make. My first sing Lost In Time was written during the time when i had a bad case of detachment. You know, when you question your physical and mental existence on this “Earth”? Have you ever felt that before? If you have, good. Im not alone.”
“The best thing about being a musician is being able to share our music to others that can connect to you and know that we’re not alone and that we’re all looking out for each other. That’s why i do it anyway.”
