Avril Lavigne Black Star Tour by Tune Talk

And so Avril Lavigne‘s Black Star tour came to a close at Stadium Merdeka thanks to Tune Talk as part of Tune Talk’s “No Big Deal Lah! Concert Series”. Yes sirree! You heard that right Avril “Complicated” Lavigne grace us with her Canadian presence recently and Serge was there to cover the event with much ballet techniques with the authority.

First up getting to the stadium was a horror for after picking up Jessica from One Utama, the traffic was too bloody heavy from Federal Highway (starting from Hilton Petaling Jaya) right until the turn off to Cheras near Midvalley. This was the sad case of Serge clutch-driving only; Clutch-driving – the art of moving a manual transmission vehicle by just slowly releasing the pedal.

Hahaha! You can tell how slow the traffic was and by the time Serge and Jess passed by Midvalley it was close to 6pm++. Concert start time was 8.30pm, so why was he worried ? The passes that the both of them were to collect was between 6.30pm to 7.30pm and a certain incident had happen previously which Serge did not want to see it happen.

Amazingly and by some miracle, they arrive on time got their passes and both went on their separate way. Now about that ballet which Serge mentioned earlier, amazingly the letter that we got from the people who invited us mentioned that no cameras was allowed. What the hell? Of course this was later explained by Jinny Boy who has attended an Avril Lavigne concert when she was here in Kuala Lumpur a few years ago.

Apparently Avril Lavigne concert crew is quite particular with photos and thus no photography was allowed. Though this wasn’t quite true as photography was allowed as long as it wasn’t done with a professional DSLR. Serge was smart enough to bring his camera with him and because of the size of it, most people would have thought it was just a simple digital camera.

After having a chat with the people from Tune Talk, Serge was pleasantly surprise to see Anis. This young girl was someone whom he first met during the Glee Flashmob KL and subsequently at two Justin Bieber events. Both Bieber events was brought by Tune Talk as well.

Anis was there with her two friends, Tiggi and Monigue. Love those three girls especially Anis, though Serge still wonders if she (Anis) would have spotted him if he did not have his hat on. These are some questions that might have an answer but he does not want it to be answered. Besides those three and Jessica, Serge spotted Joshua as well as Victoria.

The crowd was nearly-ridiculously big and moving about to snap photos of the crowd before they even entered the stadium was something even a slithering snake will think twice of doing. Some of them were waiting since 2pm, talk about dedication and around 8pm the gates open and the tribe of Lavigne began to flood the stadium like some Black Star plague!

Organizers for this concert was rather strict as they didn’t even some of the Datuk’s children to bring their camera in and even the official camera man wasn’t even in front of the stage. Nevertheless, Serge still managed to get some rather pleasant shot of Avril in action. Jinny Boy and Joseph Germani was there too as spectators.

Those two had quite a number of fans in the crowd, some of which began quoting lines from Abuden. A video that became viral and made by both of them. Soon Avril appeared on stage and the crowd went wild. According to Tune Talk the crowd was around 14000 people, though to Serge it was rather sad as the stadium was kind of empty.

Avril sang about fourteen songs, some from her first album and from her latest. Sk8ter Boi, Girlfriend, Blackstar, Complicated and Smile were some of the songs she sang as part of the Black Star Tour set list. Funny thing was that before she sung her first song, Jinny Boy had mentioned that as soon as she open her mouth to sing the first line, it will begin to rain.

Serge believes that Jinny Boy must have some unique ability for indeed it did rain, though it was just a light drizzle. One thing is for certain, Serge must keep an eye out on the words spewed by him.

With the encore done and the concert over Serge went back and when he left and got to the parking lot where his car was, it took him close to an hour to get out of there. Well, these are the things concert goers need to endure. Overall, the concert was good not that great and Serge is sure that the people had a good time from the tweets he has viewed.
