After 29 days and 28 nights, Lyle has finally completed NaNoWriMo. This is an accomplishment for him in a personal level as he had always wanted to complete a 50,000 word novel but in the past years, Lyle always fell short due to work and other circumstances. But this year, the year when the Mayans said it will end, the year 2012 is the year that this mad hatted Lyle completed a 50k novel within the stipulated 30 days of November.
How on earth did Lyle manage to write that much? Honestly speaking, he too does not know. National Novel Writing Month, NaNoWriMo indicates that to complete a 50,000 word novel is to write 1,667 words a day on average. Seems simple enough right? No! Far from it and Lyle isn’t a fast typist so writing even 500 words takes him quite a bloody long time.
So what did he do? He typed and typed and typed until his fingers couldn’t take anymore. Lyle will then rest and continue typing again until his head could not take it and so he sleeps. Amazingly, his average a day is at around 1,740 words. There are times when he wanted to give up as there has been days which he could not write at all.
Think about it, miss two days you have 3,334 words to catch up and with that day add in another 1667 and you have to write out 5001 words just to make sure you are on time to meet the deadline. Yeah, Lyle did want to give up half way but as he continued to type his story out; he learn that the characters which he was creating was coming alive and the plot was really fun. He learn that writing is too damn bloody fun, also knowing great NaNoWrimo participants such as Naoko and Kamigoroshi; who finish 50k too damn early!
Lyle can breathe a sigh of relief and look at his Fort of Decadence and say that he did it. He conquered NaNoWriMo. Only casualty in this battle is definitely his keyboard and the lack of sleep.
