Centuries ago in India, few women who had yet reached puberty became wives of god and were given the title; Devadasis. These wives of God lived in or around the temples and performed various duties, such as dance and music performances. They became an integral part of many large Hindu temples. However circumstances had made these beautiful Devadasis into women of pleasure and subsequently forced into the flesh trade.
Join us at KLPAC where dancer / choreographer in-residence, Lex Lakshman Balakrishnan, will be directing the period dance drama which tells the story of a Devadasi whom falls victim to a cruel fate as an eternal wife of God, following tradition-even death.
